Here are 3 surefire ways of passing a drug test in 24 hours. These methods are known to work all the time if done in the right way; dilution, using detox kits and urine substitution.
Dilution method is hands down, the easiest and cheapest way of beating a drug test. Simply put, this method involves drinking a lot of water in a bid to take the concentration of THC metabolites in your urine to way below the detectable levels.
What’s so good about this method is that it can be used as a same-day solution. And this means that you can toke late into the night and still pass the test the following day.
However, the dilution method is a complex process that involves more than simply gobbling gallons of water ahead of a test.
In a glance, the dilution method involves
- Determining your lean body mass (LBM)
- Calculating the amount of water to take
- Drinking an electrolyte solution for 3 hours
- Collecting a sample and analyze results
- Repeating the test over and over again if necessary
Here is a summary of how to dilute your urine successfully
What you’ll need
THC test strips
These strips test the number of THC metabolites in your urine thereby keeping you posted on how much more water you need to take
This supplement consists of sodium and magnesium. It helps in keeping your blood’s electrolytes at the required levels to prevent electrolyte imbalance. It also keeps your urine’s specific gravity level in check
Creatine ethyl ester supplement
This helps raise the creatinine levels above the cutoff mark especially if you are struggling with lower levels of this urine component. Exercises such as jogging and cycling as well as eating protein-rich foods are other ways of doing it though
Creatinine test strips
They show the concentration of creatinine in the urine so that you don’t dilute it to levels that might make the lab experts suspicious
Vitamin B2 supplement
This gives urine its natural color
Step by Step Guide of How to Dilute Your Urine Successfully
Determine your Lean Body Mass (LBM)
LBM refers to your total weight minus the weight of the fat in your body. This value is what will help you in determining the amount of water that you need to take. You can calculate it here: https://www.calculator.net/lean-body-mass-calculator.html
Drink the electrolyte solution for 3 hours
Mix the electrolyte supplement and water to make a solution. With your LBM in mind, you’ll need to take 4ml of the electrolyte solution for every pound of your LBM per hour for 3 hours before analyzing the results.
For instance, if you have an LBM of 120 pounds, you’ll need to take 120*4ml of the solution each hour for 3 hours (120lbs*4ml*3hrs).
Collect a sample and analyze the results
After 3 hours, collect a sample and test it for THC metabolites, specific gravity, and creatinine levels using the specific test strips and analyze the results to determine the next step
Analyzing the results
The essence of analyzing the results is to determine whether the determined hydration rate does help in bringing the concentration of THC metabolites to below the cutoff level (50ng/ml) while ensuring that the creatinine levels are above the normal mark- 20ng/ml.
- THC metabolites are <50ng/ml and creatinine level >20ng/ml- you are on the right track; continue with the regimen
- THC metabolites are >50ng/ml and creatinine level >20ng/ml- you’ll want to increase your water intake to bring the concentration of THC metabolites down. Take note of the additional amount of water though since you don’t want to bring the level of creatinine to below the required mark
- THC metabolites are <50ng/ml and creatinine level <20ng/ml- this is a tricky situation since you need more water to take the concentration of the metabolites down, but this will lower the creatinine level even further. If you have several days to the test, you’ll need to do everything you can to boost the creatinine level, for instance, jogging, cycling, taking creatinine supplements, and eating protein-rich foods
Repeating the test
With your newly determined hydration rate, repeat the test and analyze the results after every 3 hours to ensure that you are on track
On the day of the test
- 3 hours to the test, start the hydration process using the rate that worked for you
- Piss as many times as possible
- 1 hour to the test, take vitamin B2 pill to give your urine its normal color
The dilution method has a high rate of success when followed diligently. However, as you may have realized, it’s not the easiest method in the world especially if you don’t have enough patience or time to determine the ideal hydration rate for your condition.

Urine substitution is yet another sure way of passing a urine drug test. This method involves giving urine that did not come from your body. Besides borrowing urine from somebody else, you could also buy synthetic urine mostly in the form of concentrate online. Powdered urine needs to be mixed with water and then heated to within the required range. You can also store your own clean urine. Learn how to store urine for a drug test.
Passing a urine drug test with this method was possible a decade ago. Today, stringent urine collection regulations by the Department of Transportation (DOT) have been put in place thereby making it nearly impossible to game the system this way.
There are two major challenges that this method presents; getting the substitute urine inside the collection stall and maintaining the temperature within the required range.
Following the DOT laws, no one is allowed to take anything (purse, wallet, backpacks, or outerwear) inside the collection stall. In most instances, the lab workers may also conduct a visual inspection especially around the waistline and in socks to minimize the chances of fake or borrowed urine being taken inside the restroom.
Of course, you could stash a Whizzinator (or a similar device) or a pack of powdered urine concentrate in your underwear and succeed in getting with it inside the collection point. However, it will still be a huge problem to get things done especially under observation.
Worth noting, most collection stalls today don’t have water access. And this makes it even harder to add water to your synthetic powdered urine. The water from the toilet tank won’t be of any help either since DOT guidelines require all drug testing facilities to ensure blue tank water coloring to thwart this.
Most labs have also developed ways of detecting synthetic urine, by the way.
The only way to pass a urine drug test is to avoid the drugs in the first place. If you’ve been smoking cannabis all along, however, abstaining for a day or two won’t increase your chances of passing the test by a greater margin.
This is because THC is highly fat-soluble. This means that it gets trapped in the fat cells where it is released into the blood and taken into the liver for metabolism and later into the kidneys for excretion through urine at a constant rate over time.
That being said, natural detoxification involves getting rid of the THC stored in the fat reserves. People take a different amount of time to detox naturally ranging from a few weeks to several months. This is because this method depends on how long an individual has been taking marijuana (and how much) and their weight.
All in all, people with a fast metabolism, low BMI, and lower water retention will be able to eliminate the THC in their body much faster.
Natural detoxification is more or less a fat loss program, and you’ll, therefore, need to follow a proper diet and exercise regularly.
Drinking at least 2 liters of water- water is one of the most important components of a weight loss regimen. This is because it works as a natural appetite suppressant thereby making the body to metabolize fat
Eating leafy greens – the most straightforward way of losing weight is eating fewer calories than your body is using. This doesn’t mean starving. Substituting high-calorie ingredients with fruits and vegetables adds volume to your dishes without adding lots of calories
Lemon juice – lemon juice added to warm water promotes quick weight loss by promoting digestion and boosting the rate of metabolism
Saying no to junk food and red meat- junk food is often packed with loads of calories. These excess sugars and fats add to your fat layers thereby increasing the storage surface for THC. Consequently, it becomes harder to lose weight and to shed off stored THC. Therefore, it’s essential to replace junk with vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, and nuts as you try to detox
Healthy fiber- fiber acts as a natural suppressant by reducing appetite. This means that it can help you minimize calorie intake and this will help in losing weight. Healthy high-fiber foods include legumes such as black beans and kidney beans, nuts such as peanuts and almonds, bread such as rye and wheat bread, and fruits such as mangoes, pears, apples, and berries
If you have more than a couple of days before you need to test, getting a good workout can help to rid your body of toxins. Just about any workout is beneficial, but cardiovascular exercise is preferred. You want to get your heart rate up and work up a sweat.
If you need more information – below we will explain how urine drug tests are carried out and what labs look for.
How Urine Drug Tests Detect Weed
Also known as urinalysis, a urine drug test is done to detect the presence of metabolites/residues that remain after the use of marijuana. These metabolites are THC-COOH and not THC as most people think.
So, how is a urine drug test done?
Most drug testing companies will require you to collect the urine in a designated collection point within the facility. This is one of the ways of ensuring that the specimen is of the highest credibility.
Also, the urine collection process may either be under direct observation (where the collector observes as you urinate) or unobserved (where the donor enters the collection stall alone, and the collector waits outside).
Specimen Validity Testing (STV)
After handing over your urine specimen to the collector, the first thing that the lab guys do is to verify the validity and reliability of the urine. The essence here is to detect any form of substitution or adulteration. STV is done by observing the following characteristics of urine;
Typically, normal urine varies from yellow to amber in color and should not be cloudy. The variation is brought about by things such as the concentration of urine and recent diet.
Under normal circumstances, the temperature of the urine should be the same as your body temperature, that is, around 98.60F (37c) on average.
Most urine testing companies, however, use a range of between 90F and 100F (32c and 38c). Anything outside this range gives the lab experts a good reason to believe that the specimen may have been substituted or adulterated. This is the reason why temperature measurement is done within the first 4 minutes after urine collection.
Creatinine is a chemical by-product of normal muscle metabolism. It is carried through the blood and filtered in the kidneys for excretion through urine. Normal random creatinine levels in the urine range from 40mg/dL to 300mg/dL in males and 37mg/dL to 250mg/dL in females. This variance is brought about by the varying amount of muscles between males and females (the more muscles that you have, the higher the creatinine levels).
While several health reasons may lead to considerably lower creatinine levels in the urine, dilution (also known as water-loading) is also common.
Specific gravity (also known as specific density) refers to the ratio of the density of urine to that of water. The specific density of water is 1.000 while that of an adult’s urine falls anywhere between 1.002 and 1.030 assuming that the kidneys are functioning normally.
The high specific gravity of urine compared to that of water is as a result of the particles suspended in urine. A higher SG might be as a result of dehydration, excessive sweating, and diarrhea. On the other hand, a lower concentration might be as a result of a rare condition called diabetes insipidus that leads to abnormal production of dilute urine or excessive consumption of water.
The normal pH of urine ranges from 4.5 to 8.0. Values outside this range may make the examiner suspicious.
However, it’s important to note that some medications such as ammonium chloride (found in most cough medicines), sodium bicarbonate (used to treat acid indigestion and heartburn), and methenamine mandelate (used in the treatment of urinary tract infections) might also affect your urine pH. So, remember to point out any treatment that you may be under at the time of the test if you fear that it might affect your urine pH.
An adulterant refers to any foreign substance added into a specimen with the main intention of manipulating the results. To be more precise, adulterants are used to produce a false negative in a test result.
The most common adulterants used today include household vinegar, liquid laundry bleach, table salt (sodium chloride), Goldenseal tea, Visine eye drops, and water among others. Most labs test for most of these adulterants today only that what each lab tests for may vary.
In case the lab expert finds an issue with one of the above key components of urine in your sample (color, temperature, and creatinine levels), you may be required to collect another specimen in an observed environment this time. Otherwise, the specimen is ready for testing.
Types of drug tests
There are two major types of drug tests that are used to detect the presence or absence of THC metabolites in urine;
An Immunoassay test is often the very first step in a sound urinalysis process. This method is also commonly known as a point-of-care test since it’s widely used to analyze a few samples at home and in the workplace. However, some advanced laboratories now have fully automated systems that use the immunoassay test to analyze thousands of specimens within a short time.
The definite advantage to this method is that it’s easy and straightforward and does not necessitate complex technologies and machines. This means that it is cheap for whoever is demanding for the test and there’s a bigger profit margin for the testing company. Precisely, the cost of point-of-collection tests ranges anywhere between $5 and $20.
On the downside, immunoassay tests are plagued by high rates of false-positives and false-negatives thereby rendering the results pretty much possible.
All in all, negative results are reported as negative, and no further action is taken. On the other hand, testing companies must do a confirmatory test on all specimens that test positive to eliminate the chances of a false-positive. That’s when your sample is sent to the lab for a GC-MS test.
GC-MS (Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry) is only resorted to as a confirmatory test for urine specimens that test positive with initial immunoassay tests. A GC-MS test has a higher level of sensitivity and accuracy and, therefore, means that there is a meager chance of false-positive (less than 1%).
So, why can’t they do a GC-MS test? Cost considerations. These tests require expensive equipment, and they are also time-consuming. For the record, the cost of these tests goes way above the $100 mark thereby proving so costly for most employers.
Until that time when the GC-MS method will be the standard method for drug urinalysis, it’ll always be easy to game the system.
All you need is to pass the Specimen Validity Test and the immunoassay test. And that’s what we’ll be showing you in the next section.
The internet is flooding with hundreds (if not thousands) of options of how to beat urine drug tests. We find most of them outright confounding and dangerous. We’ll be shedding more light on several popular methods that are thought to work although they don’t.
The methods of passing a urine drug test that doesn’t work
The 3 methods that we have discussed above have the highest success rates (when done correctly). In the following section, we’ll be explaining other highly popularized ways of passing urine drug tests that you must have heard of and why they don’t work.
The belief that cranberry juice does help in cheating a urinalysis is several decades old now. Those who propagate this method base their claim on its diuretic properties as well as its zinc, niacin, pectin, and aspirin components all which are considered to be possible remedies for messing up the results in a urine drug test.
This method does hold some water in theory, but it’s riddled with a lot of grey patches that make it downright unreliable. For instance, there are several scientific studies that prove that ingesting aspirin a few hours to a test might help in beating an EMIT drug test.
Also, pectin which is a fiber and one of the components of cranberry juice makes this method a little bit promising due to its ability to bind to some of the THC metabolites and rerouting them for excretion through poop.
The major drawback to this method, however, is that there are no scientific studies to prove the amount of these key ingredients in cranberry juice. For instance, you need to ingest 1300mg of aspirin (4 pills) to cheat a test. But how much of this ingredient can you get in a given amount of cranberry juice?
The few scientific studies that have been done around this method suggest that cranberry juice would only work when used for dilution. And this is something that you can do with plain water.
This method used to work some decades ago, but it’s no longer reliable these days. The key ingredient of aspirin is salicylic acid. Although it’s still not evident how this ingredient aids in messing up the test results, it is argued that once it is absorbed into the bloodstream, it burns off most of the THC metabolites floating in the blood thereby minimizing the amount that ends up in the urine.
This method again involves drinking a lot of water, and this ends up diluting the urine thereby lowering the available THC metabolites to below the detectable levels.
Going through several marijuana forums, you’ll come across people who report having beaten the test using this method and others who didn’t make it. There are several possible reasons for this.
First, the number of aspirin pills that one should take to falsify the results isn’t clear. On this note, we believe this will vary from person to the other depending on several factors such as BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) and the length of time that an individual has toked.
Second, the amount of water that you should take in this method is not definite too. This means that the chances of over-diluting the urine is high.
The worst bit, however, is that advancement in EMIT technology has now made it possible to detect salicylic acid in urine samples thereby making it possible to detect ‘cheating.’
Goldenseal is a low-sprawling herb and a member of the buttercup family of plants. It has for long been highly regarded for its medicinal benefits such as treating inflammations on the mucous tissues and respiratory and digestive disorders.
Its main active ingredient- berberine- has also been found to curb the ability of bacteria such as E.coli from sticking to the walls of the urinary tract. This is also what makes the stoning community believe that goldenseal can also aid in beating a urinalysis.
According to most people’s belief, goldenseal prevents THC and its metabolites from being stored along with the urinary tract passages. This leads to an increased rate of excretion of the metabolites thereby making it possible to pass the test.
Although there are several people who claim to have passed the test using this method sometimes, there isn’t solid scientific evidence to prove that Goldenseal works as it’s thought to. Also, the general assumption that the 2-3 pills that everyone is recommended to take is misguided since we all have varying drug metabolic rates and different amounts of stored THC in our fat reserves.
But similar to aspirin, what should worry you the most before relying entirely on this method is that laboratories now have a way of detecting Goldenseal in urine specimens.
Niacin is a member of the vitamin B family, and it’s also known as vitamin B-3. The body gets enough of this vitamin from foods such as cereal grains, milk, eggs, beef, vegetables, and fish. You could also get it as a supplement from most drug stores.
Niacin has two major roles in the body that also make it a good bet for people who believe that it can aid in cheating a urinary drug test.
Firstly, this vitamin is known to aid in the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats from the food we eat. From this role, most people believe that a higher intake of this supplement can boost the Basal Metabolic Rate thereby leading to the release of the THC stored in the fat reserves. This isn’t true.
Niacin aids in the digestion of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins from the food we take but does not boost the BMR. This means that it won’t boost the metabolism of stored fat in any way.
Secondly, a higher dose of vitamin B-3 (2000mg) is used to treat high cholesterols in the blood. It does this by dilating the blood vessels thereby regulating the blood pressure. This is what causes the flushing feeling that comes some minutes after ingesting these pills.
Most stoners claim that this flushing effect is a sign of fat being burned and purged. Most of them also go ahead to believe that vasodilation also happens in the fat tissues which again is hard to prove.
The belief that bleach can be used to beat a urine test shows the extent to which people can go to skew test results. People who go by this method suggest two ways of doing it: adding a few drops of bleach to a urine sample and ingestion.
There is enough scientific evidence that proves that bleach can break down THC metabolites in a urine sample. This is good news since the absence of these metabolites means that you’ve passed the test.
This does not come easy though. To begin with, it will prove hard for you to sneak this chemical inside the collection stall especially if you are dealing with a lab that follows the DOT rules to the latter. Secondly, even if you managed to do it, bleach has two other ways of selling you out. First, it reacts with urine to emit strong fumes that will get you everyone’s attention. And it doesn’t stop at that. After the reaction, you’ll be left with a red-brown discoloration that no lab expert will want to do a test on.
Swallowing it won’t help either. It could kill you through serious chemical burns in the mouth, esophagus, and stomach. Contrary to most people’s beliefs, bleach does not mask the THC metabolites in urine.
With all the available scientific support, we can’t deny that vinegar can help in natural detoxification of marijuana. Acetic acid (the active ingredient in vinegar) is a key player in most weight loss regimens due to its ability to reduce body fat. Putting into consideration that THC is highly fat soluble, it goes without saying that vinegar will help in releasing the THC that is stored in fat cells. However, this method does take some time (up to 12 weeks) to deliver significant results.
Can it be used as a same-day solution? Well, the internet community has it so, but we would never recommend it. According to the sources that vouch for this method, you can use vinegar as a same-day solution by adding it directly into the urine sample or by drinking a solution of vinegar and water.
In the first method, it is argued that vinegar, which has a pH of 4.3 will lower the pH of urine to make it slightly acidic. This will consequently interfere with the Emit Immunoassay. This argument holds water to some extent, but it also poses a huge problem. pH is one of the parameters that almost any laboratory will verify first thing. This means that the chance of being flagged for adulteration is extremely high.
By ingesting vinegar, it is thought that it masks the THC metabolites thereby making them unavailable for detection in the test. While it’s hard to disprove this, it’s also hard to prove it scientifically. There are higher chances that it’s the copious amount of water that you need to take with vinegar that make it possible to beat the test. This brings the risk of over-dilution which might make the lab guys suspicious of foul play thereby warranting further scrutiny.
Azo (sold as Azo-Standard in chemists) is used as a pain reliever for urinary tract infections. Azo products are also thought to help in clearing toxins and disease-causing bacteria in the urinary tract.
When ingested, about 40% of it is metabolized in the liver, and the rest is excreted through urine unchanged. It’s on this basis that it gets its popularity as a possible remedy for cheating urine drug tests.
In the urine, pyridium – the active ingredient in Azon- is said to interfere with the immunoassay tests thereby leading to a false negative.
Unfortunately, there is no way to prove that pyridium would have any effect on the test. There is also another challenge that makes this method hands down, unreliable. The 40% that makes it to the bladder unchanged gives urine a dark orange color that will alert the lab experts to a possible attempt to cheat the test.
The Certo method (as it’s commonly known) involves taking a mixture of Certo and Gatorade juice followed by 2-3 cups of water and a vitamin B12 pill. The numerous positive testimonials from people who have cheated the test using this method make it hard to underestimate its capabilities. However, Certo does not work as most of its supporters claim, and it might reduce your chances of beating the test if followed blindly.
Most online sources, for instance, argue that Certo creates a barrier along the wall of the stomach and that of the urinary bladder. This makes it difficult for the THC metabolites in the stomach to penetrate back into the blood system. On the other hand, the lining along the urinary bladder is to make it hard for THC metabolites in the blood to penetrate the urinary bladder for excretion. There isn’t any scientific justification for this.
The second argument is based on pectin’s incredible ability to absorb most of the liquids that come its way. This high affinity for liquids coupled with THC metabolites’ excellent solubility in bile means that a large portion of the metabolites is excreted through poop. This reduces the number of THC metabolites available for elimination through urine.
Although the latter argument is partly true, it’s very hard to quantify the amount of pectin fiber that is present in a can of Certo. This makes it hard to determine the amount of fruit pectin that one should take depending on the level of THC in their body.
In our opinion, the fruit pectin method works because of consuming a lot of water. As we told you earlier, this can easily lead to a failed test due to over-dilution of several components of urine such as creatinine, specific gravity, and color.
Zinc supplement has the potential to help you beat a urine drug test. And the good thing is that it has been scientifically proven to possess this ability whether it is ingested or used as an adulterant. Unfortunately, using this method isn’t as easy as most sources might make it seem.
For instance, if you intend to use it as an adulterant, the number of pills that you’ll need to add to the specimen will depend on the concentration of THC metabolites in your urine. This may be anywhere between 5 and nine pills depending on the size of the pill (zinc tablets range from 50g to 100g).
Regardless of the number of pills that you’ll add, you’ll need to swirl the mixture to dissolve the zinc pills completely- something that you need to do and hand over the specimen to the collector in 4 minutes. This increases the risk of altering with the normal temperature of urine which is tested almost immediately.
Ingesting zinc tablets seems much easier than adding it directly into the urine, and this is bolstered by the fact that it works similarly to adulteration. The only challenge with this alternative method is that the number of zinc ions that end up in the urine after ingestion isn’t high enough to interfere with the results, according to studies.
Baking soda has a lot of uses around our homes but aiding in passing urine drug tests isn’t one of them. This cooking ingredient is thought to make the drug user vomit most the toxins when ingested. The remaining toxins are then combated by drinking a lot of water that flushes them out via the urinary system.
When we told you that some of the methods of passing a drug test that most people propagate today are downright confounding, this is one of the methods that we had in mind.
We’re yet to come across any scientific evidence that shows that ingesting baking soda can help you vomit THC metabolites. What most studies prove is that it increases your urine’s pH levels thereby increasing the likelihood of a false positive on an EMIT test.
Stoners seem to have found yet another use of the ‘devil’s juice’ other than releasing the brain’s ‘Feel-Good’ chemicals: gaming the test. The claims that it can work this way is based on the fact that THC is much more soluble in alcohol than in water. This is again complemented by some findings that suggest that alcohol- which is a diuretic- also aids in losing weight when taken ‘moderately.’
These facts tend to make this method workable on paper. But don’t open that bottle of wine or bottle just yet… you might want to change your mind.
Although it’s true that alcohol can lead to alcohol-induced weight loss, several researchers says that this would only happen if you take utmost 8 ounces of an alcoholic beverage every day for a few days until your body adjusts and starts burning stored fat for energy (this alone means that you can’t rely on this method as a same-day solution).
Again, inconsistency means that your body does not adjust and it ends up storing the calories from the alcoholic beverage as fat.
The second claim of how this method works is the opposite of the first: alcohol inhibits fat burning. Chronic consumption of alcohol has been found to inhibit the production of testosterone which consequently leads to lower metabolic rates.
Low metabolic rates mean that fewer fats are burned and, therefore, fewer THC molecules are released for metabolism. As a result, there are fewer THC metabolites in your urine, and this increases your rate of passing the test.
What makes the latter claim a hit or miss is determining whether the alcohol will inhibit the metabolism of fat long enough to allow you to collect a clean specimen. In addition, the amount of alcohol that one should take to inhibit fat metabolism is not clear and we bet this will vary from one person to the other.
It’s true that you can sweat out THC. Unfortunately, this won’t make you pass a urinary drug test. And the reason is simple: labs don’t look for THC. They are after its metabolites. The most significant blow here is that a large portion of THC metabolites (THC-COOH and THC-COO-glucuronide) are excreted through poop and urine.
What this means is that while spending several hours in the sauna will help you sweat out some THC, it will have almost no effect on THC metabolites.
There is yet another snag to this method; sweating does not boost your metabolic rate. Put in other words, it won’t speed up the release of the THC stored in your fat cells. This means that these molecules will always be there to haunt you.
The online community will bombard you with lots of options if you are desperately looking for a way to beat an upcoming urinary test. But as we told you, most of these methods don’t work… and those that do don’t work as most sources claim.
Other than alcohol and sweating, all other methods work due to the high amount of water that is involved in them. This means that you are simply diluting albeit blindly. This can easily lead to either a failed test (if the lab experts find out that you tried to fool the test) or a repeat urine collection (this time in an observed environment) if luck is on your side.
Dilution is always the easiest way to game a test. But it needs to be done wisely putting into consideration all the crucial components of urine; creatinine level, specific gravity, and color.
